Tank Disinterested in Inheriting WBA Lightweight Championship

Davis has shown reluctance to claim the WBA lightweight championship despite Haney’s decision to relinquish his undisputed lightweight titles. Haney admitted that he would give up the four belts and challenge Regis Prograis, the WBC super-lightweight champion on December 9.

As the current WBA Regular titleholder, Davis is poised to inherit the WBA lightweight champion status after Haney’s move. Despite what seems a sure elevation, Davis tweeted on 30 Nov. “I don’t want that s***;” and again, “I want blood;” the tweet has since been deleted.

The 29-year-old Davis secured a notable victory by stopping Ryan Garcia in the 7th round of the catchweight fight. In the interim, Haney who fought in May last, defended his lightweight titles after a close fight against former champion Vasiliy Lomachenko.
