Manny Pacquiao will face Errol Spence Jr in the ring on August 21 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. During the kick-off press conference, Keith Thurman approached Manny Pacquiao and asked him if he still has a dog named ‘Thurman’ from their fight in 2019.

Manny Pacquiao instantly started laughing as his last opponent shot the hilarious question at him during an interview. Keith Thurman lost via split decision to the ‘Pacman’ after 12 rounds in 2019.

Ever since then, he has been chasing a rematch with Pacquiao. However, the eight-division champ has shown little interest in fighting Thurman again.

“Manny, I still need to know. Do you still have a dog named Thurman? My doctor has a dog. I go to her office every week, and the dog is named ‘Manny’.

“Her ex-husband is Filipino, so they named the dog ‘Manny.’ They got divorced, so she stuck with Manny. I see little Manny all the time,” said Keith Thurman at the press conference.

Errol Spence Jr has an advantage over Manny Pacquiao

Keith Thurman picked Errol Spence Jr over Manny Pacquiao for their upcoming bout. The current welterweight champ’s size and reach can prove to be a major competitive advantage over the 42-year-old eight-division champion.

In 2019, Spence overpowered Mikey Garcia with his long reach; he gauged the distance and landed jabs constantly that helped him boost his overall score. Spence bagged that fight against Garcia via a unanimous decision.

However, fighting taller opponents with longer reach is not new to Manny Pacquiao. The ‘Pacman’ is coming off a victory over Keith Thurman, who had similar advantages over him. Pacquiao closed with a split decision win over Thurman in 2019.

When asked if his size and reach will give him an upper hand in the fight, Spence repliedit’ll be as important as much as I make it“. Spence added he will aim to dictate the pace of the fight and that there will not be room for any lapses.

Errol Spence Jr will look to gauge distance at all times against Manny Pacquiao. This will allow Spence to land effective jabs and negate Pacquiao’s tactics and movements altogether.

For the ‘Pacman’, it could come down to his ability to close the distance as that could make his striking more effective against a taller opponent.
