Former light-welterweight and welterweight boxing champion, Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton gave his thoughts on the injury rumors surrounding Deontay Wilder’s defeat at the hands of Tyson Fury in the rematch in a recent interview.

Recently, one of Wilder’s training partners, Junior Fa, came forward months after the fight and stated that Wilder suffered a bicep injury in the training camp leading up to the rematch. Seemingly unimpressed with the excuses, Hatton said:

“Well, you know, we all the bring the excuses out don’t we? After the job’s done… You know I think one of the biggest, I mean you’ve gotta be honest and say straightforward, if you’ve got an injury, tell them, cancel the fight, get it rescheduled.

“I think it’s always sometimes, I know you have to go into fights injured sometimes. But you know, if you’ve got an injury, mention it before. But if you got an injury and you don’t mention it and you go through the fight, don’t cry sour grapes after the fight.”

A lot of excuses and conspiracy theories have come up following Deontay Wilder’s TKO loss in the second bout. Some even stated that Wilder had to wait backstage before the walkout for a very long time wearing his heavy armor, which tired his legs out.

Others stated that Fury had not laced up his gloves properly. Deontay Wilder (43-1, 41 KOs), however, will get a chance at redemption when the two collide again this year in December.

His plan after that would be to face fellow Britisher Anthony Joshua, who is the unified heavyweight champion. The bout will decide the undisputed champion of the division and the best heavyweight on the planet.

But for that to happen, Fury will first have to go through Wilder again, which is not an easy feat.
