In the summer of 2019, Anthony Joshua suffered a lopsided defeat to underdog Andy Ruiz Jr. This was Joshua’s first loss and also one of the biggest upsets of modern-day boxing. The Mexican-American boxer completely outclassed the Brit in every department, leaving everyone, including the latter’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, in awe. Despite this, Hearn stuck to his prime heavyweight fighter, and eventually, in the rematch, Joshua avenged his loss.

But recently, Anthony Sims Jr., an upcoming boxing prodigy, hit wild verbal shots at the Matchroom boss, and even asserted that ‘AJ’ should have got cut from Hearn’s roster.

Sims Jr. was earlier promoted by Matchroom boxing, but after his last defeat, Matchroom terminated his contract. This left the American boxer fuming, and in an exclusive interview with Seconds Out, he went all out on Hearn and Joshua.

He said, “I really thought it was gonna be a great family atmosphere. Eddie Hearn treated me like I was the next big thing and then one fight and boom. They cut my contract.

“You let this back up a little short fat out-of-shape Mexican knock you out. Because he’s Mexican, this little fat guy knock you out. And what did Eddie do? He didn’t cut his contract. Eddie threw his a** back in the ring like this.”

Joshua is the biggest fighter at present under Eddie Hearn’s wings. He brings in a tremendous amount of eyeballs in all of his fights. Hearn knows Joshua’s stardom, and this is principally why he didn’t cut his contract.

Sims Jr. was unquestionably left disheartened as his contract with one of the bigwig promoters got terminated. But, he still is young and has a lot to prove.

Whereas Joshua, while he lost to Ruiz Jr., was already an established boxer. And cutting his contract would have only put Hearn in jeopardy.
