Social media has been a prime tool for modern-day boxers to attain fame and market themselves to boxing fans. However, Billy Joe Saunders has been on the wrong side for his online antics. The unbeaten WBO super middleweight champion recently created controversies for his remarks on Barry McGuigan and a BBC journalist.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has also denounced the act and advised Saunders to delete the social media accounts. In a chat with DAZN, Eddie Hearn said, “I think Billy should just delete social media, really. It’s difficult because I think sometimes, and he’s brought a lot of it on himself, he’s portrayed a certain way and that doesn’t help him.”

Saunders will face WBA and WBC super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez on May 8. That’s a massive fight waiting ahead for him. So, the non-sport incidents can hamper his image ahead of the mega bout. That said, Eddie Hearn appeared vexed over the ‘Superb’ WBO champion.

“I can’t babysit him, I can’t hold his hand. That’s it. That’s it for him. He either becomes a legend of British boxing that night or loses his world championship. The stage of me holding his hand and trying to guide him through how to behave on social media and how not to behave, it’s gone too far for that now,” said Hearn.

Meanwhile, Saunders seems ready to meet the P4P King. While Canelo Alvarez will primarily defend his belts against Avni Yildirim on February 27, Billy Joe Saunders will train for his upcoming fight, which may be a title fight or an undisputed showdown depending on what transpires on February 27.

Billy Joe Saunders vs Canelo Alvarez- What’s at stake?

Assuming that Alvarez would defend his titles against Yildirim, he will have to put them on the line against ‘Superb’ Saunders. Meanwhile, the Britisher would also put his WBO title at stake. So, the winner would unify all three governing body belts as well as The Ring belt.

Also, Saunders’ unbeaten record will also be on the line. If he retains the ‘0’, he would be the second man after Floyd Mayweather to beat Alvarez. Not only that, but he would also become the top champion at 168 lbs.

While his recent social media stance may seem debatable, Saunders can revive his goodwill with his superior in-ring dominance. To do so, it may be beneficial if he focuses only on training and sparring. Should ‘Superb’ pay heed to Hearn’s advice?
