After last night’s fight, Jaime Munguia proved he is ready to take on the heavy hitters in the 168 division. And the name on everybody’s mind is none other than Canelo Alvarez, but Eddie Hearn has his doubts about the fight getting made! So, the head of Macthroom Boxing has concocted a plan for Munguia.

The Tijuana resident dominated John Ryder, knocking him down four times and taking home the win via ninth-round TKO. While appearing in an interview with Fight Hub TV today, Hearn discussed Munguia’s performance and shed light on the 43-0 fighter’s potential future. Hint – it doesn’t include Canelo or David Benavidez!

In conversation with the reporter, Hearn suggested Canelo is left with two options for his next fight – either Benavidez or Munguia. He believes Jaime Munguia would be an easier choice for Canelo, but if the fight doesn’t get made, Hearn wants Mungia against Edgar Berlanga. “If they don’t get that fight made, I want to make Jaime Munguia against Edgar Berlanga,” Hearn told Fight Hub TV.

The head of Matchroom Boxing highlighted Berlanga’s upcoming fight against undefeated Padraig McCrory, claiming if Berlanga performs well, a fight with Munguia is possible and would fill up stadiums. “If Berlanga can win on February 24th impressively. Mexico, Puerto Rico, that’s a big fight, MSG [Madison Square Garden] – it will fill the place up,” said Hearn. However, it’s worth considering who Munguia wants to fight next!

However, the reporter brought up his Mexican counterpart, Canelo Alvarez, and Mungia let the floodgates open, expressing his desire to fight Canelo. “It will be a great fight among Mexicans. Canelo gives us the chance. It will be an honor to be in the same ring as him,” said Mungia. It’s also worth mentioning that Canelo will fight on 4th May for Cinco de Mayo, but his opponent remains undisclosed. So, there’s a possibility of the all-Mexican fight becoming real!
