Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn has come out guns blazing after dishing out some cheeky remarks following a failed fight negotiation. The British promoter was recently called out by Arnold Barboza who accused him of refusing to increase the purse bid for his proposed WBO junior welterweight title eliminator bout against Liam Paro.

According to a recent article by BoxingScene, Barboza declined the title eliminator bout against Paro, despite Matchroom’s $3,03,000 purse bid. The split was set to be 60/40 in favor of Paro since the fight was scheduled to take place in the United States. However, Barboza, who is promoted by Bob Arum‘s Top Rank, claimed that he was interested in the fight. However, he would not succumb to the terms put forward by Hearn and Matchroom. The British promoter has now responded to these claims and made some interesting revelations about the negotiations.

Matchroom CEO took to Twitter and claimed that he was not obliged to increase the purse bid. Moreover, his response implied that he was not sorry at all and that he had no intention of negotiating with Barboza, who he felt was asking for too much.

“Yeah sorry for not increasing the offer after winning the purse bid,” he wrote. Barboza did ask Hearn for more money to make this fight happen. However, Hearn refused to negotiate, prompting Barboza to decline the offer. As for Paro, he will now face the latest signing of Matchroom Sports in the coming month.

Hearn officially announced that his promotion had signed WBC junior welterweight champion Regis Prograis. Moreover, he will make his promotional debut against Paro also making his first title defense. The fight will take place on June 17th in New Orleans, Louisiana, Prograis’ backyard.

Despite Barboza’s disappointment, the situation worked out well for Paro, who now has a direct path to a world title shot. While Hearn had to take some time to sign the Prograis in the end he was able to succeed.

Moreover, while Barboza may have been disappointed by Hearn’s refusal to increase the purse bid, he will now have to look for other opponents to face.
