Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn has voiced his opinion on the Canelo Alvarez vs Callum Smith fight. The two will face-off in an intense super-middleweight clash later tonight and will look to make their own statements in the division. However, there is a huge size difference between both fighters and many consider this an advantage to Smith. Hearn has had his say on the matter.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hearn described the fight as, “This is a battle of the No 1 pound-for-pound in the world against the No 1 super-middleweight.”

He added, “Callum has a great size advantage, he punches very hard, he has a reach advantage. But he’s in with the pound-for-pound No 1 in the sport.”

And this is true. Yes, Callum Smith has all the physical advantages. However, we have seen Canelo fight opponents bigger than him before and knock them out. So, the size will be no problem for Alvarez.

This could be one reason Alvarez picked Smith as his opponent. As seen in his fight against Fielding, he loves to unleash vicious body shots.

Eddie Hearn says both fighters did not have an ideal training camp

The English promoter also added that the preparations for this fight have been far from ideal. He said, “At the moment neither guy could look you in the eye and say they’ve had an ideal camp – the fight was made on four weeks’ notice even though both were training before.”

This could be another reason why the advantages go out of the window, since neither boxer had time to work to tailor a plan to exploit the same.

Despite this, Hearn said Smith is there to win, and it is clear to see why. Smith is unbeaten and reigns supreme in the division. He will look to make a big statement against Canelo in the ring.

What do you make of Eddie Hearn’s comments ahead of the titanic super-middleweight fight for the belts?
