Deontay Wilder was reigning on the entire heavyweight division until he met Tyson Fury for the second time inside the ring. While the first contest ended in a controversial draw, it still exposed Wilder’s flaws.

Based on that, Fury ended ‘The Bronze Bomber’s’ dominance in the rematch by knocking him out in the seventh round of their fight. Since then, we haven’t heard a lot from Deontay Wilder. He has also pulled out from the trilogy fight in December, citing injuries to be one reason.

If not for the loss against Fury, Wilder would have still been the most lethal WBC heavyweight champion. However, ‘The Gypsy King’ showed that Wilder is beatable, and it has possibly ended his threat to the roster.

Meanwhile, Eddie Hearn believes that Wilder can get back to his previous form. The Matchroom Boxing promoter has recently expressed his expectations from the ‘The Bronze Bomber,’ comparing his loss against Fury with Anthony Joshua’s loss against Andy Ruiz Jr.

Eddie Hearn has some advice for Deontay Wilder

In an interaction with Sky Sports, Hearn gave his opinion on the entire situation surrounding Wilder. Comparing the situation with Joshua’s loss against Ruiz Jr., Hearn said, “I can only think back to when AJ lost to Andy Ruiz, you know? I remember going to see him the next morning.”

He added, “I don’t believe that there was a day that went past from June 1 to December when he defeated Andy Ruiz in a rematch that he didn’t think about getting is revenge and becoming world champion once more.”

Thus, Hearn wants to see a similar spirit from Wilder. He said:

“AJ didn’t come out and say too much other than ‘I want the rematch,’ and this is what I would like to hear from Deontay Wilder. But listen, he is his own man, you know? If this guy all of a sudden earns his money, and he is gonna walk off into the sunset, good luck to him.”

However, Hearn understands that it’s Wilder’s personal choice. Yet he still wants the former WBC champion to take a stand. He added:

“It’s a dangerous sport, you know? You need to get your money and get out there, but you also need your pride and your legacy. You know that’s the key as well and for Wilder. I don’t know any other fighter that wouldn’t just be thinking ‘I want that rematch’ but I wanna hear it.

“It’s all really weird. The good news is I am not bothered about that. All I know is Wilder misses the bout, he ain’t gonna get a shot at the world title until 2022 and onwards.”

Tyson Fury will no longer wait for Deontay Wilder. Thus, Wilder might have to hunt for a fresh opponent to become relevant in the heavyweight title picture.
