In a conversation with FightHype.com, Eddie Hearn had something to say about Canelo Alvarez, “He’s a one-off. You know, he’s a generational fighter. The way that he fluctuates up and down the weights, all he wants to do is face champions. He’ll never duck a challenge. His resume is incredible.”

The boxing promoter added, “For me, I think he’s the greatest Mexican fighter of all time. I think he’s gonna go down as a pound-for-pound legend of the sport.”

Hearn believes that although Alvarez is an established and splendid fighter, one cannot overlook the 19-0 Russian pugilist.

“But this is a very tough fight, very tough fight. Because Dmitry Bivol is not old, he’s not faded, he’s not been in wars, he’s young, he’s fresh, he’s been waiting for this opportunity for a long time. But to beat Canelo Alvarez, you have to be a pound for pound great,” he concluded.

Big fights ahead for Canelo Alvarez

The Mexican, who has not faced a single defeat since his showdown with Floyd Mayweather, would like to keep it that way. In combat sports, anyone has a puncher’s chance and Alvarez could face a real challenge against Bivol. However, Canelo will take confidence from the fact that he has ended three men’s undefeated streaks over the past 31 months.

Should the undisputed super-middleweight champion beat Bivol, the Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin trilogy showdown will gain traction.

Their first fight was a draw, and Alvarez won the second. Hence, the third fight will be crucial to both men’s legacies in the ring. This bout going down depends on how Canelo fares against Bivol. While Eddie Hearn has given a mixed signal about who is going to win this fight, fans will have their own views. Share your pick for the May 7 bout in the comments below.
