Eddy Reynoso Describes Ryan Garcia’s Dire Condition Before Hand Surgery

It has been 10 months since fans last saw Ryan Garcia fight in the ring.
The 23-year-old lightweight contender first sparked talks of his comeback a few months back. Word spread around the boxing community that Garcia had been booked to fight Javier Fortuna in July. However, as fans finally started looking forward to his comeback, ‘King Ry’ announced his decision to back out from that fight.
He stepped out of that fight as he needed some time off to focus on his mental health. While many criticized Garcia for backing out, Gervonta Davis wished him well and even Luke Campbell supported his decision.

The 23-year-old then subsequently announced his return to training. A few weeks later, news broke out of a matchup between Garcia and JoJo Diaz. Considering the magnitude of this fight, fans were finally pumped to see both fighters back in action; however, this fight has now been postponed because of an injury.
Ryan Garcia recently underwent surgery for a severe hand injury that he suffered in training. He later updated his followers on social media that his surgery had been successful.
On episode 128 of the PBC podcast, trainer Eddy Reynoso shed light on what happened to his fighter and what the next few months are going to look like for him-
“Ryan has been having some pain in his right hand for a couple of weeks now, so he decided to go to the doctor then the doctor told him he needed to have surgery on his hand so he’s going to be out a month without being able to punch anything in the gym so that’s the reason we decided to push our fight that was happening,” said Eddy Reynoso.
Twitter digs into Ryan Garcia for backing out of JoJo Diaz fight
It seems pretty clear from Ryan Garcia’s post that he suffered a legitimate injury. However, Twitter is hardly ever kind. As news of the JoJo Diaz fight postponement broke out, ‘keyboard warriors’ took shots at the lightweight over his inactivity and 10-month long hiatus from the ring.

“I want to thank my fans for all the continued support. We are postponing my next fight for a couple of months as a result of a significant hand injury that requires immediate surgery. I will undergo surgery at Cedars-Sinai on Monday. I promise early 2022, I will return better!” said Ryan Garcia.
