When it was announced that Devin Haney would face Jose Ramirez on the same card as Ryan Garcia in Times Square, many expected Haney to deliver a statement performance—one that would strike fear into ‘King Ry’ ahead of their highly anticipated rematch. Instead, Haney seemed to have a different goal: alienating fans even further with a performance that could be described as little more than a lullaby.

Haney entered the ring with a game plan centered around evasion, circling the ring, and avoiding meaningful exchanges at all costs. Ramirez wasn’t much better, unable to close the distance or apply any real pressure. The result? A fight so devoid of action that many suspected it could set a new record for the fewest punches thrown in a 12-round bout.

Did Devin Haney and Jose Ramirez break the record?

As the fight dragged on, veteran commentator Jim Lampley hinted at just that. And when the final bell rang, Compubox confirmed the suspicion: “Haney & Ramirez combined to throw just 503 punches- 4th fewest in CompuBox history for a 12-round fight,” the stats service reported. “Haney had a 45-17 edge in power landed, as Ramirez landed 2 or fewer in 11 of 12 rounds,” they added.

While the two fighters narrowly avoided the ignominy of producing the least-active fight on record, the performance has cast a shadow over the viability of a potential Haney vs. Garcia showdown later this year, especially given reports that Haney pocketed more than $30 million, his highest to date, including pay-per-view revenue, for last year’s action-packed bout.

Regardless, fans didn’t take it easy on Haney.

What’s your perspective on:

Did Devin Haney's snoozefest against Ramirez just ruin his chances against Ryan Garcia?

Have an interesting take?

Teofimo Lopez brought into question

Like Garcia and Haney, Lopez was also on the card, but his fight turned out to be slightly more entertaining. “After the backlash to Devin Haney’s fight with Ramirez, the idea of Ryan Garcia facing Teofimo Lopez next may not be totally out of the question? Wouldn’t rule it out 🥊,” one user wrote. However, Lopez reportedly wants to face Jaron Ennis.

Another user reminded everyone about comments from the commentators, who also poked fun at Haney for the slow fight. “Even the commentary are mocking Haney, the least punches ever thrown in a 12-round fight 😂,” another wrote. However, Haney seems to have been saved from that.

This user speculated what would happen if Haney, in his current state, fought Ryan Garcia. “If that Haney shows up against Ryan in the rematch, it’s going to be a quicker night for Ryan #FatalFury #GarciaRomero,” someone else commented. Notably, Garcia still has his fight against Romero pending.

Someone else speculated that Haney hasn’t gotten over what happened to him against Garcia. “After what I’ve seen tonight. I think Devin Haney is mentally still dealing with the aftermath of the Ryan Garcia fight. If he fights like this – he loses to Ryan again, and if he was to fight Teofimo Lopez….he would lose to him too,” wrote another. Or his year out of the sport had a lasting impact on Haney’s performance.

Meanwhile, Amanda Serrano joined the conversation, noting, “Massive? 😳” She responded to a tweet, suggesting Haney’s win over Ramirez was “Massive.” This seemingly suggests Serrano doesn’t think much of Haney’s fight.

This next user seems to have been happy that his fight stream wasn’t working. The user commented, “First time I was happy for my stream to crash lmfao.” It’s yet to be seen how Alalshikhs feels about his unique event being branded boring. What did you think about Haney’s performance? \

That said, it appears Devin Haney has made things worse for himself with his over-defensive fighting style. Do you think it was the right mover? Should Garcia fight him again?
