They have been active in defending against mandatory contenders, but fans want to see them collide to determine one true welterweight champion. Last year, Spence Jr. was all set to take on his biggest and perhaps the most important title defense against the legend Manny Pacquiao. Unfortunately, a few days before the fight, ‘The Truth’ succumbed to a horrifying eye injury and pulled out.

He later went for surgery, and with time, Spence Jr. recovered well. To fill in his place for the Pacquiao fight, the WBA champ, Ugas stepped in.

Coming in as a heavy underdog, no one expected Ugas to do well against the Filipino Senator. However, the lanky fighter employed his reach and jabs to pull off one of the biggest upsets in 2021.

Not content with one win, he was looking to face more elite opponents. Now that Spence Jr. came up with an announcement, Ugas will be keen to take on his sternest test at this weight class.
