Unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. has opened up about a potential bout against Vergil Ortiz Jr. The American champion welcomed a match-up against his undefeated compatriot and said explained what would happen if they met.

Ortiz Jr. is fresh off a fantastic performance against Maurice Hooker. The knockout artist extended his record to 17-0 with another knockout win. After the fight, Ortiz Jr. welcomed title fights, and now ‘The Truth’ has given his honest opinion on the possibility.

The WBC and IBF champion spoke to media after Ortiz Jr.’s knockout win and said, “He did good. [If] me and Vergil fight, it would be a great fight”. 

This comment showed Spence Jr. liked the 22-year-old’s performance and also revealed he respects his fighting ability.

Ortiz Jr. called out Spence Jr.’s rival, Terence Crawford, after his fight. As both Ortiz Jr. and Spence Jr. come from the same boxing gym, it is more likely that he would face ‘Bud’ than ‘The Truth’.

What can we expect from a potential bout between Errol Spence Jr. and Vergil Ortiz?

Ortiz Jr.’s bout against Hooker was his first major test at the welterweight division. The young American passed with flying colors and showed he is on his way to superstardom. So, if the two were to meet, what could we expect?

Styles make fights in any combat sport, and the style of the two fighters would provide a scintillating contest for fans. Spence Jr. is a very technical boxer with good movement and ring IQ; Ortiz Jr. is famous for his power, speed, and precision.
