Former unified Heavyweight Champion Andy Ruiz Jr. will finally return to the ring on May 1st. This will be his first fight since December 2019.

However, many have predicted a high-profile bout against Deontay Wilder after this. And legendary boxer Evander Holyfield has had his say.

Ruiz Jr. will face Chris Arreola as the main event of a PPV card in 2 weeks. The former champion goes into the bout as the clear favorite.

Therefore, many are already speculating about his next fight, and Holyfield seems to agree that a bout against Wilder would be the way forward.

‘The Real Deal’ spoke to ES News on YouTube and gave his honest take on Wilder facing Ruiz Jr. “It’s hard for me to talk about anybody from Alabama.

“He’s from Alabama, I’m from Alabama. And so, you know, they say, if you don’t have nothing nice to say, I’m thinking, cause you know…,” Said Holyfield.

This comment showed that Holyfield stayed tight-lipped when giving his prediction. However, he explained why it would be a fantastic fight.

The difference is, Ruiz is a trained fighter. He is a good fighter. I bet, you know, that fight, it would probably be one of the greatest fights.”

Moreover, Wilder hasn’t fought since his defeat back in February 2020. Thus, it would be unlikely that he would immediately jump into a fight against Ruiz Jr.

Based on all these factors, it is difficult to see the two fighting each other anytime soon. Unless Deontay Wilder takes the bout to prove a point, we can’t see the two meeting this year.
