Boxing as a sport has been around for ages. There have been many champions and many great fights that have happened over the years. However, some fights, in particular, stand out in the memory of boxing fans because of what happened during the fight. The rematch between two of the greatest heavyweights in Mike Tyson and Evander Holyfield is one such fight.

The two men first fought in November 1996 where ‘The Real Deal’ claimed an impressive knockout win. However,  what happened in the rematch is perhaps to this day one of the most shocking incidents in boxing history.

In the third round of the fight, while in a clinch, ‘Iron’ infamously bit off a piece of Holyfield’s ear. ‘Iron’ claimed this was in response to multiple headbutts in the first fight.

In a recent interview, a reporter asked Holyfield how long it took him to forgive Mike Tyson for biting off his ear. He replied, “About five minutes….. You know the thing is, I came from a big family. In a big family everybody kinda takes shots at you.”

Mike Tyson recently took on Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition match that went the distance. The fight did extremely well, and received positive feedback from fans and pundits alike. Following the success of the event, Tyson’s former rival Holyfield has thrown his name in the hat to face Tyson next. This would be the third meeting between the two men if the fight were to happen.

Holyfield is 58. He last fought in 2011 aged 48 and secured a late stoppage win over Brian Nielsen in his opponent’s home country of Denmark.
