Boxing fans and experts regard Floyd Mayweather as one of the best defensive fighters in the sport’s history. Thanks to his incredible defensive skill, Mayweather seldom found himself in trouble. However, some fighters hurt ‘TBE’, and Manny Pacquiao was one of them.

Pacquiao and Mayweather were on course to face each other for many years. The pair finally met in 2015, in boxing’s most lucrative event. And although Mayweather took home an easy unanimous decision victory, ‘Pac Man’ hurt him occasionally. So let’s look back at the instances where Mayweather got hurt.

The 50-0 boxer took control of the fight from the first round. However, Pacquiao showed signs that he could hurt ‘TBE’ in the second and third round. This gave Pacquiao heaps of confidence, and in the fourth round, Pacquiao came out all guns blazing and landed fast combinations that hurt ‘Money Mayweather.’ He even had the American backing up to the ropes multiple times.

Round six brought more success for Pacquiao; he listened to his corner and increased his punch volume. As a result, he had Mayweather backing up throughout the round while he landed multiple hard combinations.

After a subdued round seven, round eight and nine brought more success for ‘Pac Man.’ He continued to land fast combinations that hurt Mayweather. In the eighth round Mayweather backed off multiple times, while in the ninth, he tried to counter. However, both approaches failed as Pacquiao got his punches away.

Why did the Filipino lose the fight?

Manny clearly had his success in the fight and hurt the former multi-weight champion. And while he went into the bout as the smaller man and underdog, his only way to beat Mayweather was to throw more punches. So why did he lose?

Despite hurting Mayweather on four separate occasions, Floyd Mayweather showed his class. He dominated all the other rounds, kept Pacquiao at bay with his snappy jab, and threw more punches and landed more than the Filipino.

Therefore, the unanimous decision victory for ‘Money Mayweather’ came as no surprise. Although Pacquiao could hurt the champion, he did not have enough to put him away.
