The undefeated WBA champion knocked out the Mexican in the sixth round to maintain his perfect record. Many people are calling it the knockout of the year. After the fight, the world of combat sport went into a frenzy with the knockout. The fight promised to be a cracker, and it was exactly that.
NBA champion LeBron James also reacted to the insane knockout by Davis. The legendary basketball player took to his Twitter account to pen his thoughts. Fresh off an NBA championship victory, James called it the ‘Knockout of the year’.

How did Gervonta Davis knock Santa Cruz out?
Santa Cruz predicted he would win a 12-round decision. This made fans wonder if the Mexican star would try to take a slower approach. However, Cruz was willing to stand and trade. The fight came to life from the very first round, with both fighters landing their shots.
Davis, however, was landing the harder shots in all those exchanges. Mainly aiming to counter punch, the southpaw found success as the fight went on. It was just a matter of time till Davis could connect one of the big shots, and he did. Santa Cruz was out cold.
In the post-fight press conference, Davis’ said he was glad Santa Cruz was okay. Santa Cruz himself has also stated via his Twitter.
Despite all the criticisms and questions, there was no doubt the fight lived up to expectations. It will be interesting to see what each fighter does next. One thing is for sure, Gervonta Davis is on his way to global superstardom after a performance like that.
