In the wake of his loss to Dmitry Bivol in May last year, Canelo Alvarez called his Russian opponent a great champion and declared that he would “not give excuses“. Stating how Bivol intelligently managed his distance and “did enough to win,” Alvarez said, “I lost today and he won.” In this context, the Mexican boxer also admitted that he felt Bivol’s power in the fight. Likewise, he emphasized, “No excuses. I think that’s what happens in the sport of boxing, you win or lose“.

However, recently, ahead of his upcoming bout with Jermell Charlo, the Undisputed Super Middleweight champion claimed he was recovering from a specific injury when he and Bivol shared the ring. Likewise, he stated that he could not give his 100% against Dmitry. While Canelo announced that he “shouldn’t have lost” against Bivol, fans branded his statements a lame excuse.

Canelo Alvarez is into mind games now?

Despite earlier announcing he did not have excuses, Alvarez recently informed that he “wasn’t 100% physically speaking” against Dmitry. According to Alvarez’s statements, due to a rib injury he suffered, he “couldn’t train 100%” and his “hand wasn’t 100%“. “I suffered a rib injury during training. I shouldn’t have fought,” Alvarez announced. In this context, he claimed that the defeat to Bivol was “still a pain in my heart“. “I still haven’t gotten over that moment. It affected me deeply because I shouldn’t have lost, I am simply better than him,” he added.

While Alvarez spoke about a rib injury, fans claimed he made excuses. As a result, one asked him to rematch Bivol right after the Charlo fight to prove that he was better than his Russian opponent.

However, one said, “EXCUSE EXCuse excuse.”

Given Alvarez’s statements, one hoped Errol Spence Jr. would also come up with something to justify his defeat to Terence Crawford.

Meanwhile, one pointed out that Canelo was simply “OUT BOXED!
