WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson started his boxing career in 2017 after earning a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Since then, he has earned titles in three different weight classes in the span of a mere 23 fights. However, none of those accolades seem to satisfy the hunger for greatness that ‘Sugar’ has inside him, one that can only be quenched by a fighting Gervonta Davis

Davis, currently the WBA lightweight champion, has seen a rapid rise in popularity due to his standout skills and power that can put opponents out for good. However, time and time again, the Baltimore native has denied Stevenson the opportunity to unify the division. Despite that, Stevenson continues to remain hopeful about a potential fight down the line.

While both fighters seem to have their own tests ahead of them, Tom Brown of TGB Promotions has recently shed light on when he thinks Stevenson and Davis may get down to business. During a chat with Boxing News of late, the Sherman Oaks, California native said, “Looks like Shakur is going to defend his title now against Zepeda.”

“If Tank fights again here in mid-summer, late summer, if the Roach fight comes off, you know, that’ll be up to Tank to decide,” Brown added about a potential date for the Davis-Stevenson bout. “You know, like I’ve said earlier, [Davis has] earned the right to call his shots, and he’s a great businessman, and that’ll be Tank’s decision.”

It’s worth noting that while the WBC has ordered Stevenson to defend his title against ‘Interim’ champion William Zepeda, no official announcement has been made. Similarly, ‘Tank’ Davis is expected to fight Lamont Roach Jr. on June 21st, but nothing official has been made public.

In case Davis and Stevenson do decide to make the fight after their respective bouts, it will be one of the biggest boxing attractions of its time. Although there’s no official date yet, that hasn’t stopped people from predicting the fight.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. shares an honest take on Gervonta Davis vs. Shakur Stevenson

Vergil Ortiz Jr. shared a candid assessment of a potential showdown between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson, calling it “probably the biggest fight you can make at 135.” The undefeated welterweight, who recently beat Israil Madrimov, acknowledged the high stakes and skill level both fighters bring to the ring.

Ortiz praised Stevenson’s often-criticized defensive style, saying, “He’s very technical. He is very defensive and you know what, people s**t on his defense… In reality, no one likes to get hit.” He emphasized that Shakur’s elusive style reflects the essence of boxing. “The point of boxing is to hit and not get hit,” he said.

When it came to Davis, Ortiz kept it simple. “Gervonta, he’s Gervonta. I don’t really have to explain why.” Reacting to Ortiz’s comments on X, Stevenson showed his appreciation with a brief but telling response, “That’s real!!”

That being said, it’s completely up to Gervonta Davis when the Shakur Stevenson fight may happen. As things are currently, the fight remains a distant dream. Who do you think would win the fight?
