Errol Spence Jr. truly exemplified the ‘community’ in the ‘boxing community’ today! The Long Island man made a generous donation to ease the lives of a boxing journalist’s family. Born on April 25, 1984, Jamil Yancey-Brown sadly passed to the world beyond on January 7, 2024. So, his mother had started a GoFundMe campaign to fund his funeral, something ‘The Truth’ found quickly.

After news of his passing spread across the boxing world, many turned to social media to pay their respects. Meanwhile, a lot of them also shared the GoFundMe page for his funeral. As of right now, the campaign has well passed the goal of $8K. However, the most significant donation came yesterday from the $15 million man Errol Spence Jr.

Errol Spence Jr.: Literally ‘The Truth’

On January 11, Boxing n BBQ shared news of Spence’s generosity on X (formerly Twitter). They wrote, “This is why ERROL SPENCE JR is literally THE TRUTH. Salute to you, champ,” alongside a screenshot of the GoFundMe page. Errol Spence Jr. had donated $2000 to the cause, the biggest amount by far. Moreover, the campaign itself was started two days ago.

Brown was a sports writer/blogger and the brain behind Prime Wave Media. After his passing, his mother wrote, “Early this year, my family and I have been blindsided again by another significant loss…A kind gentle spirit who always [spreads] love. We are raising funds to help lay our loved one to rest. Anything is appreciated!” What’s more, the editor for Vegas Sports Today also paid respects to the late journalist.

Mike Dixon celebrates Brown’s contribution to boxing

On January 9, Mike Dixon turned to X, writing a heartfelt message for the late journalist. “R.I.P. to @PopDibiase. You will be missed, brother. He contributed so much to boxing, sports media, and a lot [of] people behind the scenes in the sports industry.” wrote Dixon. However, he wasn’t alone in bidding farewell to Brown on X.

Even ring announcer Miguel Flores wrote, “I’m very sad to learn of the passing of @PopDibiase today! The guy always brought great energy & just loved being around the fight game. He was such a friendly face to see during fight weeks. Much love to him and his family.” The overwhelming support for Brown’s family shows the importance of the role he played in the boxing community. He will be remembered by them for decades to come.
