What makes a boxer great? Is it the quality of their opponents? Or is it the number of opponents? Popular boxing commentator ShowBizz the Adult believes Gervonta Davis, who is often regarded as the ‘Face of Boxing’, has the numbers down, but there’s nothing in his resume that makes him great!

Gervonta Davis is coming off a spectacular eighth round knockout win over relatively unknown Frank Martin in June this year. His most notable bouts include Ryan Garcia, Isaac Cruz and Mario Barrios, all of which he won via knockout, leaving Garcia. So, the question is why does ShowBizz feel Davis lacks a good resume? In a video shared on X today, the YouTube personality ropes in all-time greats like Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather to explain!

Why do great fighters always face criticism?

For the longest time, fans have pitted Davis and Shakur Stevenson against each other, claiming Stevenson would be his biggest challenge. Not to mention, Davis’ resume has been a point of contention, with many suggesting he hasn’t really faced the best out there. So, ShowBizz the Adult said, “When it comes to Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ resume, there’s nothing that’s going to make anyone feel really good about his resume”.

However, the YouTuber points out if Gervonta Davis fights Shakur, “people gonna say Shakur-look at his last couple fights, it was easy work”. Similarly, if Davis fights Teofimo Lopez, ShowBizz speculates, “they’ll say [Lopez] lost to Sandor Martin, he lost to Kambosos”. He added that even when Davis was in talks to face Ukrainian boxing legend Vasyl Lomachenko, critics said, “he’s old”.

This led ShowBizz to conclude, “That’s what happens when you’re great”. To justify his statement, the YouTuber brought up Canelo’s example, highlighting that people have criticized him for cherry picking his opponents all his career. But in reality, “Canelo has a phenomenal resume”. Turning to Floyd Mayweather, who was Davis’ mentor, ShowBizz made similar points.

“Floyd Mayweather, everybody showing his resume now… He ducked all these people,” Showbiz said while claiming that no one’s talking about the fighters who avoided Floyd Mayweather. He hypothesized that the criticism comes from biases that people have, “If you are a Canelo fan, you are a Tank hater. If you’re a Tank fan, you are a Canelo hater. For Canelo fans, you hate Floyd”.

So, ShowBizz the Adult feels that all three of the boxers are great across the board regardless of what’s the latest from their critics. Meanwhile, Davis might be able to shut all his critics up if the latest development about his next fight is true.

Shakur Stevenson on rumored November bout against Gervonta Davis

After Vasyl Lomachenko backed out of the deal to fight Gervonta Davis, some reports emerged that Davis and Stevenson are in discussions to arrange a bout in November this year. However, the boxers later cleared the air, suggesting the rumors weren’t true. Yet, the Newark native hasn’t lost hope of a bout against Davis.

In an interview with Boxing News, the WBA lightweight champion revealed what really happened in discussions for a unification bout with Gervonta Davis. “They wanted to make the fight, we just told them to send an offer, we haven’t heard anything back yet”. He added that while they haven’t reached a deal, the fight is definitely going to happen down the line. “I’m not scared to fight him, he’s not scared to fight me”, Stevenson said.

Alright, does Gervonta Davis lack a convincing resume? The opinions may differ from person to person, but there’s no denying the things ‘Tank’ has managed to achieve in his career thus far, which makes him one of the greats. And if the Stevenson fight ends up happening, he will have the opportunity to prove it. Do you agree?
