Earlier this week, the mega lightweight showdown between Rolando Romero and Gervonta Davis fell apart due to certain allegations against ‘Rolly’. Now, a lightweight contender from Mexico, Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is stepping in to challenge Floyd Mayweather’s protege.

Contrary to popular opinion, a fight between Isaac Cruz and ‘Tank’ could still offer big action. The Mexican fighter currently has 22 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw on his record. Cruz is also a skilled fighter who has been able to end 15 out of 22 fights with knockouts.

Floyd Mayweather has now spoken out about this switch-up of opponents. He believes regardless of who Gervonta Davis goes up against, the 26-year-old will never fail to put on a great show for everyone.

“December 5th: New opponent. One thing we all know is that Gervonta is putting on a show no matter who he’s in the ring with. Get your tickets now!!!” wrote Floyd Mayweather.
The internet has mixed feelings about Gervonta Davis’ new opponent
Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is a 23-year-old lightweight contender and the #2 ranked IBF title contender. He faced former champion, Francisco Vargas, in his last fight in June.
This decision to replace Romero with Cruz does not really come as a surprise to fans as he was already in line for a shot against both Davis and Teofimo Lopez. He is a gritty, aggressive, and dirty fighter; the kind that Davis has yet to encounter.

This will prove to be a tough matchup for Davis as Cruz is not just another last-minute replacement to the fight. The Mexican has what it takes to trouble the best in the world; hence, it will be interesting to watch how Davis will take on such a fighter.
However, the internet has mixed feelings about this new matchup –
It would be great to see @Gervontaa in a fight with ANYBODY elite. Not flat footed guys available to be knocked out.
