Whenever there is a conversation about the richest boxer in the world, Floyd Mayweather is the first name uttered. According to the recently released ‘Top 50 Highest-Paid Athletes of All Time’ list by Sportico, the same holds true. During the span of his illustrious career, Mayweather has made over a billion dollars!

And he continues to print money through his investments and the occasional exhibition bouts. However, Mayweather wasn’t alone on the list! Including Mike Tyson, only a few spots below Floyd, there are five more boxers whose combined income, after adjusting for inflation, comes to a staggering $5.8 billion. Despite that, Muhammad Ali’s name failed to appear on the list. But the question is, who are these six fighters on the top 50 highest-paid athletes of all time list?

Floyd Mayweather, Mike Tyson and who?

According to the list, after Floyd Mayweather at the tenth spot with $1.48 billion, inflation-adjusted earnings, Mike Tyson at the eighteenth is the next wealthiest boxer with a $905 million net worth. This number will certainly go up further after the Jake Paul fight on July 20. Not far below, at the twenty-second spot, Manny Pacquiao is valued at $750 million.

Furthermore, in close proximity, at the twenty-sixth spot, George Foreman has earned $705 million. At the twenty-ninth spot, Oscar De La Hoya made a staggering $685 million through the sport of boxing. Way back in the thirty-seventh spot, Canelo Alvarez made $640 million from the sport. Last but not least, Evander Holyfield rounded up the spot with a whopping $630 million earned over the course of his career. However, the question is, how did Sportico come up with these numbers?

Sportico explains how they calculated the earnings

Sportico revealed, “Our earnings estimates are based on conversations with industry insiders. Sportico research and historical estimates in media outlets, such as Forbes and Sports Illustrated.” Moreover, these earnings include salaries, bonuses, prize money, purses, endorsements, licensing, royalties, memorabilia, book deals, media, appearances, and golf course design fees.

The sports media outlet also stated, “We included cash earned from equity stakes in sponsor companies.” However, Sportico reportedly did not factor in the traditional investment incomes earned by the boxers. The earnings are put together during the boxers’ competing careers and retirements through 2022 and later adjusted for inflation. More importantly, these numbers are before tax deductions and payments to agents and lawyers.

True to his nickname, Floyd Mayweather is truly the king of boxing, at least in terms of the amount of money he managed to squeeze out of the sport. However, unlike most names on the list, Canelo Alvarez is still active, and as per his latest moves in the sport, he may end up with a lot more green by the time he hangs up his gloves.
