Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez couldn’t settle their differences, despite locking horns in a high voltage title scrap in 2013. Mayweather schooled a 23-year-old Alvarez in-ring and handed him his maiden and only professional defeat so far. While Mayweather retired, four years after that fight, Alvarez had demanded a rematch several times.

He even justified the loss with his young age and had vowed to beat his undefeated rival if they ever cross paths in a rematch. Nevertheless, Floyd Mayweather didn’t bother to respond as he tagged the fight as a “cakewalk” against Canelo Alvarez in a recent presser. Even though there has been a sparkling contrast between both the boxers, Mayweather’s star prodigy Gervonta Davis is in all praises for the Mexican P4P king.

In a recent chat with Fino Boxing, ‘Tank’ said, “I like Canelo as a fighter you know. He is tough, he earned a lot from his loss against Floyd [Mayweather] I believe. It made him better, a better fighter. I think he is definitely you know, one of them, pound for pound. He need to be number one.”

Currently, a four-weight champion, Alvarez is boxing’s only undisputed world titlist in the super middleweight division. That said, he will jump to 175 lbs next, challenging Dmitry Bivol for the WBA light heavyweight belt.

Similar to Alvarez’s journey, Gervonta Davis has also become a three-weight world champion already. However, he is yet to fall anywhere close to the Mexican star in terms of sporting achievements.

Gervonta Davis idolises Canelo Alvarez

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has been praiseful for Canelo Alvarez on multiple occasions. During Alvarez’s successful stint at 168 lbs, he compared the super middleweight champion with himself. Davis turned to social media and claimed Alvarez did the same thing at super middleweight, what he did in the lower weight categories.

Even if Floyd Mayweather doesn’t credit Alvarez to the fullest, ‘Tank’ surely gains a lot of lessons from the Guadalajara native. As we stand less than two months away from Alvarez’s return, we might see him offer another clinical boxing showdown to the display.
