The loss against the WBC light-heavyweight champion, Dmitry Bivol, was an eye-opener for Canelo Alvarez and many fans as the Russian who won the match via decision outclassed the Mexican boxer. Moreover, WBO, IBF, and WBA champion Artur Beterbiev’s dominant victory over Joe Smith Jr. have only added to the doubt of Alvarez being able to compete with the best at 175 pounds.

Many fans and pundits shared their opinion on Alvarez’s loss to the light-heavyweight champ, including former WBC and WBO welterweight champion, Tim Bradley, who came out in an interview and shared his thoughts on the fight.

Tim Bradley comments on the fight

In an interview with FightHype, a reporter asked the former champ if Canelo Alvarez could ever beat Beterbiev in a match, “We all know Canelo lost to Bivol but can you see in a world where Canelo fights Beterbiev and he actually picks up that win, or do you think Beterbiev is just too much?”

Bradley responded, “Canelo gotta fight GGG, that’s who he gotta fight, you know, so I’m expecting a better Canelo this time around. I’m pretty sure that he learned.” He then goes on to state that Alvarez’s strategies did not work against Bivol.

“The two strategies that you normally use that s**t didn’t work against Bivol, it didn’t work, yeah that walk you down, high guard, entice you, beat you on the shoulder all that didn’t actually work,” he added further.

Bradley then finally goes on to give some advice to the Mexican for his upcoming bout with Gennady Golovkin, “Canelo gotta get back moving on his feet man he gotta get back on that bike moving here moving there, subtle movement bro, he gotta get back to his trap, he got too comfortable knocking guys out bro.”

Moreover, his fight with Bivol has proved that Alvarez is not yet ready to take on the Russian, however, a match with Golovkin will be the perfect test for him. Alvarez has also been very vocal about facing Bivol for a second time, which he will most likely do in 2023 in a bid to further solidify his legacy as one of the best boxers of all time.
