Pound-for-pound superstar, Canelo Alvarez, is undoubtedly one of the most iconic names in the world of boxing. Moreover, his becoming the first and only boxer in history to become the undisputed champion at super middleweight, put him on a pedestal that many prize fighters wanted to take over. It now looks like there is a new addition to this list of contenders for Alvarez’s throne. And it is none other than former three-division world champion, Shane Mosley‘s son, Shane Mosley Jr.

Luis Nery faced Azat Hovhannisyan at the Fox Theatre in Pomona, California on February 18, 2023. Mosley Jr, on the other hand, was pitted against Mario Alberto Lozano as a part of the undercard.

Ahead of the fight, he spoke to media personnel at the official presser. In conversation, he opened up about the advice his father gave him when he started his career. Talking about incorporating the same, he said, “I took that into account. And I’m here now. Caught me an event in my hometown. And I’m looking up. Just because, you know I have my losses and all those things. That’s not going to deter me.”

He further added, “I’m just going to keep on grinding. Keep on reaching for the stars. And one day I’m going to have the middleweight world championship. And maybe even the super middleweight world championship. Maybe I get a fight with Canelo one day.” Mosley Jr. went on to win the fight via decision.

May 5, 2012, saw a young Alvarez pitted against a far more experienced ‘Sugar’ Mosley. Moreover, the fight that took place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada, was also an instrumental part of his career. And saw him defend his WBC light middleweight title.

Alvarez went on to showcase a sensational performance and won the fight by decision. It was reported that Mosley also lost a USD 1 million bet by losing to Alvarez.
