Frank Warren Says British Judges Are ‘Killing the Credibility of Boxing’ – Does Not Want Them on Fury-Whyte Card

The renowned boxing promoter Frank Warren made a big announcement prior to a blockbuster clash between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte on April 23.

Ahead of the huge heavyweight title fight, Tyson Fury’s promoter attended the press conference in London and spoke to the media. Dragging the British referees and judges into the witness box for a controversial decision on Jack Catterall vs Josh Taylor’s fight, he made a bold statement.

Regarding this, Michael Benson, a boxing insider, took to Twitter and wrote, “Frank Warren has stated that he does not want any British referees or judges for Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte after seeing the Josh Taylor vs Jack Catterall result on Saturday night. He said the situation is “killing the credibility of boxing”.

Notably, in the absence of challenger Dillian Whyte, the reigning WBC and the Ring heavyweight champion Tyson Fury alone set the rhythm of this press conference.

The slugfest between the warriors in the jam-packed arena of Glasgow turned out to be the biggest sensation of the year 2022. In the close fight, the judges favored the undisputed junior welterweight champ, Josh Taylor, keeping aside the score statics of the fight. Which later became the focal point of the controversy.

The fight began with southpaw duos trying to establish their lead hands. But the challenger Jack Catterall caught the champion with a straight left hand on the chin in the early minute of the initial round. Which clarified that it will not be an easy go for the champion.

As the fight went deeper, the dominance of ‘El Gato’ became more prominent. He knocked the Scottish down in the 8th round with a lethal combination. However, ‘The Tartan Tornado’ recovered and fought back till the last minute of the fight.

For the uninitiated, as the fight ended, it was easy for the spectators to make out who was the winner. But the verdict of the judges left the sports fraternity in complete shock.

However, as of now, various reports say that boxing regulating bodies have set the inquiry. But Frank Warren’s targeting of the judges speaks volumes about the controversial matter.
