The undefeated fighter made a relatively late switch to the sport of boxing. His early interest lay in track and field while pursuing his degree in Fine Arts.

However, re-current Achilles injuries cut that dream short, and at 22, he made the switch to boxing. Due to this, the Juggernaut’s career progression has not followed the typical trend.

He spent all his 20s fighting as an amateur boxer when most would be turning professional.

Despite this late switch, Joyce enjoyed enormous success at the amateur level. He won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, as well as the 2015 European Games in the super-heavyweight category.

Joyce also fulfilled his lifelong goal of winning an Olympic medal. He won silver in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The multi-talented fighter also won a bronze at the World Championships in 2015.

So success has followed Joyce in all walks of life. However, winning an Olympic medal and having a degree in Fine Arts did not satisfy the Englishman. As a result, in 2017, he made the switch to professional boxing at the ripe old age of 31.
