George Kambosos’ father blames the referee
In the post-fight interview, Kambosos’ father slammed referee Hector Afu for allowing Devin Haney to hold him during the match, saying that it resulted in the Australian not being able to execute his game plan.
The reporter asks him if the advice changed for Kambosos after losing the first few rounds, to which he says, “He basically had to put more pressure on Devin you know and he just let Devin get too comfortable all the time so if you’re gonna be comfortable with that jab you’re not gonna be able to get inside so George had to execute what we did at training and the way we prepared was extremely well.”

He then goes on to slam the referee adding; “Obviously you know there’s no excuses but the referee basically you know with the holding and stuff you know usually you get warned and maybe a point taken off but the other fighters momentum is stopped that there means George is gotta reset.”
He feels that the holding allowed by the referee did not allow Kambosos to gain momentum and that he had to reset giving Haney an advantage.
Kambosos vs Haney
The fight was one-sided as Haney executed his game plan perfectly. He kept Kambosos from getting his offense going by establishing a jab and keeping the ‘Ferocious One’ at a distance. Haney’s defense was also on display as he made great use of his footwork.

Haney wanted to fight at a distance while Kambosos was looking to close the distance. In the end, the Australian could not execute his game plan and Haney won with 116-112, 116-112, and 118-110 on all three scorecards.
