Newly crowned unified lightweight champion, George Kambosos Jr. can now make his own calls in the existing roster. He currently holds most of the 135 lbs titles and can opt to move in any direction. However, the Australian prodigy seems ready to face the best men in the slot and isn’t shying away from calling out the A-listers.
Prior to his win over Teofimo Lopez in New York, several people had looked down at his chances. Despite being unbeaten and possessing more experience than Lopez, Kambosos Jr. seemingly entered the fight as an underdog. On the contrary, he shook everyone by battering ‘Take Over’ to claim the WBC (franchise), WBA, WBO, and IBF belts.

Kambosos Jr. says he will now defend the titles in his home country, Australia, and has already outlined some potential names for that.
Per reporter Michael Benson, ‘Ferocious’ said, “I’m fighting either Devin Haney or Vasyl Lomachenko next in Australia. Full stop. From the horse’s mouth.”
The current lightweight scenario was pitting various options before Kambosos Jr. Although Haney and Kambosos Jr, had verbally agreed to meet in-ring, they aren’t close to signing the papers yet. Meanwhile, Ryan Garcia had also pitched himself to face Kambosos Jr, vowing to knock the champion out in a potential clash.

But amid all of them, George Kambosos Jr. has eyed Vasyl Lomachenko and Devin Haney. A clash against Haney will allow him to unify all his belts with the WBC strap. Meanwhile, Lomachenko will fetch sheer fame and legacy to the Australian star. Thus, the lightweight title picture seems to have found a flow recently.

Kambosos Jr’s win over Lopez took him to the main scene of the existing boxing domain. The lightweight division was blooming with popular superstars and not everyone had credited Kambosos Jr. as a top-tier persona. Well, the tables have turned and ‘Ferocious’ now sits in the spot of Teofimo Lopez. It was a scratchy loss to digest for ‘Take Over’, who is now planning to move up to 140 lbs.
