Before the fight, Davis was hitting mitts in the warmup, wearing Grant gloves with the logo on it, and the Mexican colors on the thumb. However, in the fight, Davis is seen fighting with plain white gloves with no logo.

We suspect that these gloves are a pair of winnings gloves. Some people started accusing the American of cheating by tampering with his gloves, especially after the latest controversy surrounding Deontay Wilder and his comments.

Davis has since come out to explain the issue. The WBA lightweight and super-featherweight champion wrote this on his Twitter:

“Leo signed off on both fight gloves… Ask him.” He then explained why he changed the gloves. He said, “And I changed my gloves because my first pair was uncomfortable… I do not have to cheat to win.” Thus, putting all the rumors to bed before it could even materialize.

Why did Gervonta Davis have two pairs of fight gloves?

The glove situation in boxing is something that fans do not see and therefore do not completely understand. However, one day before the fight, the fighter has to choose 2 pairs of gloves he wants to use.

The opponent and his team then inspect these gloves and hand them over to the commission that has sanctioned the fight. The opponent has to sign on the gloves as a mark of approval.

The sanctioning authorities then keep the gloves with them until fight night. They then hand over the gloves to the team in the dressing room. An official watches the procedure of hand wrapping. Thus, there is no room for cheating when it comes to gloves.

The accusations that were coming up were from those who do not understand this procedure. Gervonta Davis won that fight fair and square.
