Multi-weight boxing champion Gervonta Davis is optimistic about making a move to the UFC, and on materializing that plan, we can see him lock horns against some of the biggest names in the MMA world. However, his boxing ride may not allow that shift immediately.
Isaac Cruz recently put an end to Davis’ knockout streak and took him to the distance. Although ‘Tank’ managed to win via decision, he clearly had a taste of Cruz’s A-listed striking features. That said, Davis has already captured titles at 130 lbs, 135 lbs, and 140 lbs in boxing. He has also teased a move to 147 lbs. Thus, he can easily make it up to the featherweight category (147 lbs) in the UFC.
When asked about his desire to fight in the UFC, Gervonta Davis said, “Yeah, we are going there.”

His promoter and CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe, also verified the claims. He mentioned having a good time with the MMA promotion. In the past, Leonard Ellerbe and UFC honcho Dana White joined forces to host a super-fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor in 2017.
The fight generated massive finances. But McGregor’s shift to boxing saw him suffer a TKO defeat against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather. So, Dana White may possibly open his doors to re-work with Ellerbe once again. And this time a boxer may enter the MMA cage, which is rarely seen in the fight world.

Although Claressa Shields has dared to do so, not many boxers do the same. That said, the massive financial differences in both sports are also a valid reason why boxers frequently don’t move to MMA.

Can Gervonta Davis be a tough challenge for UFC fighters?
On entering the bantamweight (130 lbs) or featherweight (145lbs) ride in the UFC, Davis can come against some top-tier strikers like him. A striking contest between Gervonta Davis and Max Holloway or Petr Yan, or Alexander Volkanovski, will be spectacular.

However, it’s highly arguable whether Davis will be a good fighter on the ground. A mixed martial arts competition will demand a lot more than just boxing. So, Davis can come across a hard time. But it will be an interesting fight feast for the fans.
