Gervonta Davis Scared? 10-Pound Rehydration Clause in Ryan Garcia Fight Sparks Outrage: “That’s Weak”

Gervonta Davis Vs. Ryan Garcia is one of the most awaited matchups in the sport. Both boxers are the top prospects in the lightweight division, and the bout between the two will be sensational. As anticipated as this bout is, Its fruition was not easy. The finalization of the fight witnessed a lot of ups and downs, but eventually, it was officially announced. The duo will clash on April 22nd in Las Vegas, but ahead of the fight, much attention has been paid to Davis’s rehydration clause for Ryan Garcia, which is not something new to the sport. In the past, many fighters are known to add rehydration clauses for their opponents.

Davis added a rehydration clause in the contract for which Garcia needs to be below the weight limit set. Even though this is intrinsic to the sport, the fans are unhappy with Davis’s condition for Garcia.

Michael Benson from TalkSport took to Twitter to reveal disclose details about the clause set for ‘Tank’ for Garcia. According to the clause, Garcia cannot weigh more than 146 lbs. The fight is set at 136 lbs catchweight, and a second weigh-in will be held on the fight day at 146 lbs.

Ryan Garcia himself revealed the rehydration clause. He did not seem worried about it. “He likes to fight people with no power, so he is trying to weight drain me.”  ‘KingRy’ said at his press conference in New York. 5 foot 10, Garcia weighs around 148 lbs for his fights anyway, But losing additional weight affects a boxer’s performance. Davis stands around 5 foot 6, and one cannot deny that the clause puts Davis at an advantage over Garcia. But that shouldn’t affect the outcome of the fight.

But, the installation of this clause has raised a lot of eyes against Davis, making the audience think that he is scared. However, Tank is not the first boxer making their opponent lose weight. Fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr have done this. Is Tank scared and bothered by the power of Garcia such that he had to add a 10 lbs rehydration clause? This clause has just raised the stakes for the fight, and it will be spectacular to watch the two clash in the ring. Mike Tyson himself revealed his prediction for the fight. However, Fans were not thrilled with this clause.
