The super featherweight division was already blooming with A-listers when Baumgardener attained the career-defining win over Harper. She now shares a similar status with Mikaela Mayer (WBO and IBF), and Hyun Mi Choi (WBA), who are the other two champions in the division.

Meanwhile, Mikaela Mayer and Alycia Baumgardner have already eyed each other and have painted opinions with different perspectives. In a chat with Behind The Gloves, ‘The Bomb’ reflected her views on Mayer’s recent criticism of her and didn’t shy away from predicting an outcome if she ever gets in the ring with ‘MM’.

Baumgardner said, “Give me my credit because you know I didn’t have the TV fight. I didn’t have the best promoter. But I had my chance, and I made that opportunity for what it was and I had an outstanding performance. Like, she is not doing that. You are not getting knockouts like I am. And I went over there as an underdog and knocked Terri Harper out in the fourth round.”

Bob Arum’s stable has backed Mayer, a Top Rank prospect, throughout. Apart from amassing in-ring success, she also tasted fame with her active media stint alongside ESPN-Top Rank. Blessed with all this glory, Mayer has never let it affect her in-ring dominance. That said, Baumgardner might be the one to take away her undefeated streak.

Can Alycia Baumgardner beat Mikaela Mayer?

Mayer has been flawless as a professional boxer, touting an active resume of 16-0. But she only holds 5 KOs under her name.

Therefore, Mayer has earned most of her wins in full-length fights, whereas Baumgardner has witnessed a different fortune with most of her wins coming via stoppage. Not many people had backed her to beat Terri Harper, which she did in style.

So, it will be wrong to write away her chances in a potential clash with Mayer. Although Mikaela Mayer shall not be an easy opponent to deal with, Alycia Baumgardner has the ability and experience to tackle so. It will be interesting to see both women collide, with a title unification at stake.
