Former female middleweight champion Laila Ali has always been an advocate for bringing on social change and fighting for what she felt was right. Like her father, Muhammad Ali, she is very outspoken on political topics and certainly doesn’t shy away from criticizing policies she feels will bring social unrest.

Moreover, Ali was quick to fire back at a shocking announcement that has taken over the internet. And she took to social media and express her displeasure.

It was recently revealed that the first newborn baby was left at the ‘Safe Haven Baby Box’. Notably, the box was fitted in 2020 and was a means for single mothers to anonymously leave their children in the box. This was a legal method for women to put their children up for adoption without going through the hassles. However, many felt that this was an inhuman device that was never used since its installation. This changed after a woman dropped off her child in the box which came as a shock to many.

Moreover, Ali shared the news on her Instagram story with a message for everyone. “God Help Us,” she wrote. The former champ has contributed to many charities and done philanthropic work. This might be the reason why she was saddened after hearing this news, which was a little controversial.

However, the founder of the device has claimed that it was completely safe and follows all legal guidelines set by the government.

How does the Safe Haven Baby Box work?

The founder of the device Monica Kelsey assured that the baby was in no danger once it was surrendered in the box. She revealed that the box automatically locks in with an immediate signal being sent to the local police officials and firefighters. Moreover, according to her the response time for offices to arrive will be just under 2 minutes on average.

Despite the assurances, the product has never been tested until now. In addition, the macabre and dark nature of the device still begs many questions which should be solved. However, Ali wasn’t even willing to take any chances with this dismissing its use and also becoming horrified by it.
