Paulie gets in trouble with Showtime

Former boxing champion Paulie Malignaggi, renowned for his outspoken views, faced repercussions after commenting on race during an interview with IFL TV a few months ago. His remarks were a response to Devin Haney‘s statement that he would “never let a white boy beat me.”

Malignaggi, while giving Haney the benefit of the doubt due to his young age, discussed the historical dominance in boxing across racial and ethnic lines. He stated that discussing race in boxing could be divisive and suggested that Eastern Europeans had become the dominant force in the sport.

Malignaggi’s refusal to apologize for his comments led to his removal from Showtime’s broadcast team. He has been an analyst since September 2012. The network is reportedly working on a severance agreement. 

Malignaggi continues his role as an analyst for Sky Sports’ boxing coverage in the United Kingdom.
