54-year-old boxing royalty in Mike Tyson spoke to Joe Rogan on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience‘ in a two-hour-long sit-down. “Iron Mike” touched on a multitude of topics that ranged from his personal growth to his upcoming boxing return. Chiefly, he is set to face fellow icon Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition bout slated for late November.

Although both combatants are into their fifties, they appear to be in prime shape as they gear up to scrap. Mike Tyson is well known for having a lethal killer instinct that has carried him far into his career.

His comparatively smaller stature for a heavyweight was considered to be a huge hindrance during his rise in the sport. However, it had little effect on the outcome of his scraps, where he dominated his opponents. “Iron” Mike attributes his overall mental approach towards the fight game as the biggest positive.

The multiple time heavyweight champion went in-depth while talking about his mental preparation. His intensity going into his comeback fight with Jones was apparent while conversing with Rogan.

“I believe that style is irrelevant. I believe it’s the morale behind the style. I think success in life and fighting is about desire and the will. How bad do you want it? Is it worth dying for? But that doesn’t do good in the real world. It’s really disastrous in the real world.”

Moreover, he explained how his killer instinct did not aid him in his life outside the bright lights of the arena. His approach to the fight game wouldn’t translate well into an existence removed from that of a world champion.

“In the real world, guys like (me) go to prison. They don’t exist in the real world. They have to remove them from the real world, the kind of people like myself.”

Tyson will look to bring his patented aggression and hunger for combat when he returns after a 15-year long hiatus. Moreover, he will be keen to erase the string of brutal KO losses he suffered towards the end of his career. Fight fans have already begun strapping themselves in for the legendary fight.
