Whyte has been in a long-drawn saga with the WBC regarding his mandatory challenger’s status. He stood in that position for over 1000 days and didn’t receive a shot at the title.

Before going ahead and challenging Tyson Fury for the belt, Whyte attempted to defend his interim heavyweight title. He faced off against Alexander Povetkin. A win against Povetkin would have solidified his position and made sure he takes on Fury for the title in his next fight.

On August 22, Alexander Povetkin — who was the underdog — delivered a nasty uppercut that knocked the lights off Whyte. Whyte was floored, and the referee didn’t even have to count to 10 to declare the match. Povetkin won the match via a fifth-round knockout. Immediately after the fight, Whyte expressed his desire to trigger a rematch clause in the contract.

Dillian Whyte resumes training

Whyte has already gotten back to training in his gym. He is on his way back with only one thing in mind, revenge! After all, he received a lot of hate following his upsetting loss.

On his Instagram, Whyte posted a picture with a caption that read, “Back to the grind I can’t wait to step in the ring again MAXIMUMVIOLENCE 2 I love this sports haters is always gonna hate it’s what they do best #whytevpovetkin2.”
