Canelo Alvarez is arguably the most celebrated boxer of this generation. Apart from his latest loss to Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol, there is only one man who defeated the Mexican king. It is Floyd Mayweather. ‘Money’ is known to stage some of the most lucrative fights in the history of the sport. It has been customary for Mayweather fights to bring in the maximum money. Alvarez has a different perspective on it, though.

As per reports, Canelo Alvarez stated, ”If Floyd Mayweather doesn’t have a fighter who is interesting or important to fight against, he alone doesn’t sell tickets.”

Well, the Mexican boxer thinks Mayweather only engages in combat with noteworthy or significant opponents. Mayweather doesn’t sell the tickets by himself; rather, he chooses opponents who also bring a sizeable amount to the table.

But, it is a fact that it is Mayweather who has had the most lucrative fights in the history of boxing. His mega events with Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor top the list of the most profitable boxing events of all time.

September 13th, 2013, was one of the most anticipated days in the history of boxing. Five-division boxing champ Floyd Mayweather and the Mexican storm Canelo Alvarez were going to square off inside the ring. The anticipation for this fight was upping the tension among fans. 

The two titans battled it out in the ring and gave it their all. However, the American boxer was announced as the winner at the end of the bout. Interestingly, fans believe that ‘Money’ was a much more experienced boxer than Alvarez at the time, and if a rematch between the two takes place today, the Mexican would surely defeat Mayweather.

Furthermore, even Alvarez has mentioned in several interviews that he lost that fight due to his lack of experience. He has mentioned several times that he wants a rematch with ‘Money’.
