Former unified light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan was considered one of the most formidable pugilists in his division. In an unfortunate development, Khan recently revealed on social media that he was robbed at gunpoint.

In a tweet, Khan mentioned that his watch was stolen at gunpoint in Leyton, East London. Khan was with his wife Faryal Makhdoom when the incident occurred.

Talking about the incident, Khan said, “I crossed the road with Faryal, luckily she was few steps behind me. 2 men ran to me, he asked for my watch whist (whilst) having a gun pointed in my face. The main thing is we’re both safe.”

Amir Khan was not the only one

Khan was not the only boxer who was robbed at gunpoint. A few other prominent names from the world of boxing have also been victims of armed larceny.

Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez was robbed at gunpoint by a motorcycle thief in 2019. Chavez was on the Bicentennial Circuit just outside the Benito Juarez International Airport when the incident occurred.

The thief stole Chavez’s chain and the Hublot watch gifted to him by the World Council of Boxing.

Former IBF lightweight champion Robert Easter Jr. was left critically injured after a robbery attempt on Feb 5, 2022. Easter was approached by an unknown suspect from behind who demanded his jewelry. When he ran, he was shot at 3 times.

The suspects then stole two gold chains, three diamond rings, and a cell phone from the boxer. Easter was admitted to the ICU where he underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments.

What’s next for Khan

Khan was last seen in the long-awaited grudge match against Kell Brook in February. The fight led to a sixth-round stoppage win for Brook after Khan suffered debilitating damage.

However BOXXER CEO Ben Shalom, in a conversation with iFL TV, revealed that Khan will fight again. He said, “Amir Khan wants to fight again but I think he accepts now Kell Brook isn’t the right option for him. People need to see that Amir is serious, it’s not just for money. “
