Vasyl Lomachenko, the two-time Olympic Gold medalist widely regarded as the greatest amateur fighter of all time turned 35 on 17th February 2023. With this, he welcomed birthday wishes from all around the world. Among his admirers, Elie Seckbach the founder of ESNews, which covers boxing updates, shared a post on Instagram. The post featured Loma’s rare picture with ‘Rocky’ star Sylvester Stallone. In another picture, ‘The Matrix’ appeared standing with his countryman Oleksandr Usyk, the reigning IBF, IBO, WBA, and WBO heavyweight champion.

The caption of the post read, “Happy bday to 2x gold medal winner and 3 division champ @lomachenkovasiliy #boxing #loma @usykaa @officialslystallone.” This caught fans’ attention and among fans was the ‘Rocky’ star’s brother Frank Stallone. Surprisingly, like Sylvester, his brother also popped up as a big boxing fan.

He wrote, “This is a great great that is past his prime it’s a shame he started very late in the professional ranks. He had too long of an amateur career like over 300 fights. But a masterful boxer.”

No doubt, Loma had a big amateur career. But it certainly shaped him into the incredible fighter he is today. When he stepped into professional boxing, he was already an experienced pugilist who faced difficulties in finding opponents. With only a small stack of fights on his resume, he became a three-weight division champ.

Unflinched by the fact that he is aging, Loma is preparing for the biggest fight of his career. His promoter Bob Arum confirmed this earlier. According to him, the Ukranian will challenge the undisputed lightweight titles of reigning champion Devin Haney.
