Gervonta Davis is no stranger to controversies. The WBA lightweight champion’s twelve-year-long career boasts as many headline-grabbing remarks as victories, and that’s saying something with his 30-0-1 record. However, never in his wildest dreams, would he have thought that one day, he would be accused of racism.

Tank has consistently spoken out against racism, positioning himself as a fierce advocate for fair treatment in boxing and beyond. So, when the accusation flew his way, his loyal fanbase didn’t hesitate. They made sure the Baltimore native had a firm ground to stand on and flooded the comment sections in his support.

Dream meeting deemed strange

The allegations came on The Spit Bucket Podcast as hosts JJ Salomon and Karray ‘Mr. IOTBA’ Bradshaw, invited Australian women’s super flyweight rising star Taylah Robertson as a guest. In a clip posted on the podcast’s official X account, Robertson shared her admiration for Tank Davis. She recalled meeting him years ago at a training camp in Las Vegas when Robertson was preparing for her fight against Jaqueline Mucio Munoz and Gervonta Davis was preparing for his Ryan Garcia fight. “He’s been my favorite fighter for a long time now,” she shared. Excited, she asked for a photo while they were at the same gym. “But that photo has a funny story because I went up to him. Because we were training in the same gym. And he’s got his bodyguard and all. I was like, ‘Can I get a photo with you?'” she recalled.

The encounter didn’t go as she’d hoped. He literally just stared at me like this. And if you can tell in the photo when I got the photo, he just looked at the camera for a second,” the 26-year-old recounted, narrating what went down. The Aussie fighter was perplexed by the strangeness of Tank’s behavior, trying to wrap her mind around it.

However, that was when she heard some chatter regarding Gervonta Davis’ bias against white people. “After that, I don’t feel like he was that…Obviously, he’s in camp, then I got to know he doesn’t like white people, Oh damn,” she exclaimed. However, judging by her demeanor, it doesn’t look like Robertson herself believes those statements. She seemed to be relaying what she’d heard from others.

Regardless, Robertson didn’t dwell too much on it, but Davis’s fans jumped in fast, deeming it necessary to set the record straight. They rallied behind the Baltimorean showing their support in smashing the accusations.

Nah! Not the Gervonta Davis we know

A fan commented, “Lol isn’t he part European ancestry?” referring to Gervonta Davis’ African-American ancestry. He argued that with Davis’s mixed heritage, the idea of him disliking white people seems far-fetched and likely baseless. Another fan chimed in, “Man had the same emotion in alot of videos I seen him in,” claiming that it is Marylander’s go-to pose for a pic and not a sign of bias.

Another fan wrote, “His PR guy his entire career is a white man for starters. So no, this isn’t true.” He is most likely referring to Lorin Chvotkin, who has been Tank’s publicist and handles his PR inquiries. Another fan noted the same thing and wrote, “Y’all weird a** trying to push this narrative… like dude someone in tank’s camp is white.”

Amid the defense, one fan gave props to Taylah Robertson. He wrote, “lmaoo she solid she aint even say ts in a salty way,” referring to how the Australian wasn’t even paying heed to the rumors.

While the chatter around Gervonta Davis has picked up steam, there has been no valid source backing up those rumors. Nothing that Tank has done so far in his career shows any of such prejudice existent within his demeanor.
