Benavidez Sr. makes his pick for Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 3

In an interview with FightHypeTV Benavidez Sr. was asked by the interviewer to share his thoughts on the upcoming trilogy fight and give his prediction. He came out in support of Golovkin but stated he might not have the best chance to win as he was past his prime.

You know what I think, love triple g he’s a warrior, but I think his prime has already passed. I think, I see Canelo winning this fight, maybe by a stoppage maybe, hopefully, I’m wrong because I’m rooting for Triple G.” He said.

Moreover, he also added that he saw Golovkin slow down considerably in his last fight while claiming Alvarez was still in his prime,” I think on the last fight that I’ve seen him when Triple G fought. I didn’t see the Triple G I’ve seen all his combinations and he was a little bit more slower and he got hit a little bit more you know. I think Canelo’s still fresh. I think Canelo still has a lot of gas on his tank, but like I said, I’m hoping that I’m wrong because I want to see Triple G win.” He added.

However, this was not all, as Benavidez Sr. sounded off at the undisputed middle-weight champion and accused him of ducking his son for a fight.

Benavidez Sr. makes a bold claim

Later in the interview, Benavidez Sr stated that he did not see a possible fight between his son and Alvarez taking place in the future and accused him of avoiding Benavidez Jr., “David and Canelo I don’t think that fight would happen. Canelo does not wanna fight David, you know a lot of people are talking to Canelo and they’re always when I fight David, he’s getting mad now, he’s avoiding David, he doesn’t wanna fight David because at the end of the day he knows David is younger, stronger, bigger and he’s just trying to avoid anything that has to do with David right now.” He said

David Benavidez is currently one of the best middleweights in the world boasting an undefeated record of 26-0. He is cited as the biggest threat to Alvarez’s reign over the middle-weight division, with many claiming him as the next champion. If Alvarez would like to keep his titles, he will have to face the 25-year-old at some point in the future in potentially one of boxing’s biggest fights.
