Canelo Alvarez is a force to be reckoned with, but he has shown vulnerabilities in the past. Back in 2013, a young Alvarez was handed his first-ever defeat by Floyd Mayweather. Moreover, more recently, he was handed a unanimous decision defeat against Dmitry Bivol. In addition, although he was defeated by Caleb Plant in a stunning fashion, it should be mentioned that the former champion had his moments in the fight too.

However, in his upcoming bout against Jermell Charlo, the undisputed super-middleweight champion is a heavy betting favorite. He has a weight advantage and has a lot more professional experience under his belt. But, ‘The Iron Man,’ thinks Alvarez is beatable and knows his vulnerabilities.

Jermell Charlo aims to capitalize on Canelo Alvarez’s vulnerabilities

According to the challenger, Alvarez’s weakness lies in facing a competitor who is agile and has a sound understanding of footwork. He claims the champion fights recklessly when faced against such an opponent, which leads to multiple error on his end. Reflecting on the same, according to Boxingscene, he stated, “When Canelo gets a little frustrated, he gets careless. He’s ready for the fight to just be over with. He don’t like motherf—— that move a lot.”

To substantiate his claim, ‘Iron Man,’ cites the example of his fight against Plant. In the bout, Alvarez was the victor by a 11th-round knockout, but Plant did give him a fight. From what Charlo saw, he claims, “It’s almost like Caleb Plant was going straight backwards. He didn’t give any angles. I’m going to move more.” It is safe to say that Charlo is short of no confidence ahead of the bout. However, at the same time, he acknowledges the magnitude of the event and realises the challenge ahead of him.

Is Jermell Charlo overconfident?

In the same interview, Charlo revealed that he is cutting no corners in preparation for this fight. He considered that he is moving up in weight class and that is a challenge in itself but is far from intimated by it. He stated, “I’m gonna train my ass off and be intelligent. I know I’m moving up in weight, but who cares? That won’t stop me from getting in there and doing it the way I do it. I’m excited for this moment.”
