Giving his fans a shock, Errol Spence Jr. gave a funny but intriguing reason why he does not want to be in a fight with Manny Pacquiao. Popular media house, ESPN Ringside on a Twitter post, has confirmed that. In the post, Spence Jr. said that he does not want to fight with Pacquiao because of respect. He also took the example of the legendary Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes. According to him, after beating Ali, Holmes did not get the respect he deserves, and Spence thinks his fate will be the same if he fought with Pacquiao. 

Spence Jr. is at the epitome of his career and it was in the news that he might be seen taking on Pacquiao in his next. But unfortunately, it seems like it won’t happen from his post.

Errol Spence Jr. can beat Pacquiao

In boxing, there were multiple fights in the past which made a strong place in every fan’s heart. But this fight was different, where a young boxer was going to take on a legend who is over 44 years old. Being undefeated, Errol Spence Jr. is at the topmost position and has secured welterweight titles in IBF, WBC, and WBA (super). On the other hand, Pacquiao, who is now quite aged for boxing, also had the titles for a long time, around 4 decades. With such credibility, the fight was an exciting prospect for the fans.

Spence Jr. said, “ I wouldn’t fight Manny Pacquiao. Larry Holmes is one of the greatest heavyweights, he doesn’t get respect. How he beat Muhammad Ali. he f**ed him up. I think it is because of that.”

Spence may beat Pacquiao, but he does not want to do that as he might lose the respect he earned. All the while humbling a legend of Pacquiao’s caliber. But is it the only reason that Spence is backing out of the bout?

Errol Spence Jr. is at the top of his career

Spence Jr. was out of the ring for a long time and he was supposed to fight again in early 2023. Recently, he just came off beating Yordenis Ugas and is the current welterweight champion who holds the IBF and WBA (super) titles. Also, it is in the news that Errol Spence Jr. might face Terrance Crawford as his next opponent and also looks to get to the middleweight division, at 154 pounds.
