Former WBO featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson recently gave an interview talking about the upcoming match-up between unified WBA (Super), WBO, and Ring magazine titleholder Vasiliy Lomachenko and IBF lightweight champion, Teofimo Lopez.

Upon being asked about his prediction for the fight, Stevenson said “I want Teofimo to win, I’m with him, I hope he wins, but at the end of the day you still fighting Lomachenko. So at the end of the day, the fight is like he got a puncher’s chance, it’s all on the punch. But as the later rounds go on, it’s gonna be hard for him to get through with Lomachenko with all that experience that he got.”

On fighting Lomachenko, Stevenson said, “I mean we sparred, I got nothing but respect for Lomachenko. I think he’s a hell of a fighter. I feel like I have the perfect style to defeat Lomachenko. That’s how I feel about myself”.

Lomachenko is preparing to fight the undefeated IBF lightweight champion, Teofimo Lopez, in October this year. He will look to add one more title defense to his record. Teofimo is coming off a second-round stoppage of Richard Commey, where he won the IBF lightweight title. He will make his first title defense going into this bout.

Known for his exceptional footwork and relentless pressure, Vasiliy has a style that believes in the idea of ‘hit and not get hit.’ His technique is so advanced that he has made some of the greatest champions quit against him.

With the upcoming bout, both their styles couldn’t be any different. Whether Lopez will catch Vasiliy with one of his hard overhands, or Vasiliy will take Lopez to deep waters with his technique, is what we have to see.
