Ryan Garcia got handed his first-ever defeat by his longtime rival Gervonta Davis. After a hostile lead-up, Davis managed to secure a clean finish in the seventh round, though, the bout was competitive while it lasted.

Garcia found some success in the first and sixth rounds of the fight but was caught with a liver shot in the seventh. Thereafter, he took a knee and failed to get up before the count and the fight was called off by the referee. A legendary Mexican fighter was supporting Garcia but was disappointed by him and also called him out publicly for “giving up”.

Many in the boxing world felt that Garcia could have dug a little deeper to get up before the count, including the former heavyweight champion and Mexican boxing star, Andy Ruiz, who is known for his durability. Ruiz managed to pull one of the biggest upsets in recent times against Anthony Joshua after being knocked down.

Post the defeat of Garcia, Ruiz took to Instagram and revealed that he was supporting Garcia, but he felt like he gave up. In a series of Instagram stories, Ruiz stated, “I was rooting for Ryan but he gave up.” He adds, “I feel like he should do what he had to do to win the fight.”

Later, he reveals what the boxer should have done. He expresses, “He should’ve risked his life more.” It is usually rare to see a fighter recovering from a clean liver shot in 10 seconds and that is why Davis was setting that up in the fight. Evident to say, Davis has a very profound boxing IQ. As he used the height disadvantage to his favor and secured a clean finish.

Conor McGregor was in attendance for the fight amongst many other notable personalities like him. He was also one of the celebrities who visited Garcia in the locker room giving the young boxer some words of encouragement. He stated, “He’s 1-0 on you, you are two of the biggest names in the division.”
