British boxer Joshua Buatsi has now left the shadow of Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn after parting ways with the promotion. The 30-year-old has now signed a deal with BOXXER criticizing Hearn’s streaming service DAZN for not catering to mainstream audiences. This move was a bit surprising given that the British promoter has made Buatsi rise through the Light Heavyweight division, even trying to book a fight with current WBA champion Dmitry Bivol.

The Russian boxer is coming off a victory over Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and it was expected that Buatsi would face Bivol next. Despite this, the fight was never made and now it seems that the former Olympic medalist is ready for a new chapter in his career. However, Hearn was not shy to speak up against his former client exposing Buatsi in an interview.

In a recent interview with talkSPORT, Hearn claimed that Buatsi did not want to fight Bivol so soon. However, the promoter was not willing to spend money on him fighting a relatively unknown name. He also cited his frustrations stating that he helped the boxer build his career but now does not want to fight big names.

“The reality is he didn’t his team didn’t want the Dmitry Bivol fight which is no problem but after that investment and getting into that position. We don’t want another fight against an opponent, where we’re going to bleed money. We’ve given him the education we’ve given him the platform we’ve boxed him all around the world now’s your chance, said Hearn.

Hearn was certainly not happy about this whole situation as he lost a boxer he help build up. Moreover, his frustration with Buatsi’s attitude reflects his commitment to building the careers of his fighters.

Joshua Buatsi downplays the Hearn split

In an interview with The Mirror, Buatsi stated that his split with Hearn was not as bad. According to him now it was time for him to move on to a different promoter as he wanted to explore his options and felt he needed to make a change.

“For me, everything was left on good terms. I understood my contract very well, I understood and stuck by it. I kept quiet for such a long period, and of course, there have been comments flying all over social media for months now. But now I feel it is a great opportunity to address these things that I felt were quite important. From my side, my time is up with the previous promoters and they did a good job with me. I just got to a point where I felt I needed to make a change, this offer was available from a third party and I took it,” said Buatsi.
