Teofimo Lopez and George Kambosos Jr. entered one of the greatest lightweight fights last weekend. In this fight, Lopez put his WBO, IBF, and WBA belts at stake. Given the animosity between the two, fans expected it to be a true war. That said, both the men rolled out a fight worth the hype, and eventually, the underdog, Kambosos Jr., ended up winning the fight via a split decision.

For many fans and purists, Kambosos Jr. was a clear winner. But for some fans, Lopez emerged as the winner. Consequently, this gave rise to questions regarding a rematch. However, it seems a second meeting between the two won’t happen.

Recently, the new unified lightweight champ spoke to Boxing Scene about a rematch with Lopez.

George Kambosos Jr. said, “Yeah, I think hearing [what he said] this morning he wants nothing to do with a rematch.”

“And I think he wants to spend some time with his [newborn] kid and, you know, take some time off, which is totally fine.”

“Even last night in the ring, you know, when I said it a few times, there was no, ‘Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Let’s do it! Let’s do it!”

‘Ferocious’ had a purpose when he walked into battle ‘The Takeover’. The American boxer was the aggressor from the first bell itself and he went all out against Kambosos Jr. However, as the Australian fighter was the composed boxer that night, he eventually got the results he wanted.

George Kambosos Jr. is in a terrific spot to face anyone

With an exemplary win over Lopez, George Kambosos Jr. is now in a solid position to face anyone and everyone from the lightweight roster.

In the above interview, Kambosos Jr. addressed this juncture and asserted, “There’s a lotta good names. But the best thing about it is I’ve got all the belts now, so I’m the shot-caller, I can pick and choose who I want.”

The lightweight division has some of the best young guns and established boxers. That said, it will be interesting to see who Kambosos Jr. finally faces for his title defense.
